Top em bordado Inglês: concluído – Eyelet top: finished

Apresentação do modelo – Presenting the original model

As I mentioned before this top took about 12 hours to finish. I am quite pleased with the end result: it’' a casual cute summer top that can be coordinated with many of my garments.

I followed BWOF's construction order and instructions, with a few modifications: I used a shorter side zipper (after ruining the one I first applied), I underlined the bodice front with white cotton, I used the same white cotton for the wrong side of the casing (instead of the fashion fabric), I used thin cotton tape for the ties, with a white bead on each end, I double topstitched the edges and I made a "Summerset inspired" finishing on the side zipper. For the hem, instead of using a narrow zigzag stitch I used my serger's rolled hem stitch.

Aqui têm os detalhes:
Here are the detail pictures:

The rolled hem (the picots are created by the fabric’s texture):
The zipper finishing inside, a little different from Summerset's because in this case I'm only binding the zipper tape:
A word of advice for those of you who will attempt na invisible zipper insertion on eyelet fabric: due to the random bulkiness of this fabric the zipper can't be stitched very close to the zipper coils; first interface the SAs along the zipper opening and press the SAs open before inserting the zipper. If you stitch too close to the zipper coils, the zipper will probably be stuck later (this is my personal experience with this eyelet fabric).

This is the lace strap inside, handstitched to the bodice:
The side zipper and the buttonholes that drive the cotton tape ties out of the casing; note that the zipper isn't that invisible anymore. If I ever sew this top again I would use a regular zipper and apply it by hand.
The ties ended with white beads:
Finalmente, as costas:

I hope that you've enjoyed this project! See you!

Really lovely! Another piece of perfection. You and Summerset and the other great garment sewists will have me making garments again before I know it!

Thanks for the tip for the invisible zipper regarding the eyelet fabric, that's definitely worth keeping in mind!

Very cute - light and summery. Thanks for the tips about sewing with eyelet - I have some I've been meaning to sew up, and your comments about the zipper are very helpful as I'm thinking about the project!

It is so gorgeous!! I especially love the back. I made the Simplicity 3867 not long ago, in a lightweight dotted Swiss, but yours is more stylish and more flattering. Great work, as always!!

Such a cute top, & the black blouse/shorts are wonderfully stylish too--you've been so busy this summer! Have you ever gone through a period in which you inexplicably didn't feel like sewing? If so, was there a reason or did you just need a break?

Tany said...

Hi, Lisa (LMH),
Thanks! Yes, it has happened to me a few times, and not only on my sewing activity; sometimes life gets in the way and for some reason what we like to do looses its meaning... When that happens I just take a break; I know eventually everything will fall into place again. Other than that, I think taking a break from sewing from time to time is "healthy" and I usually do that between seasons. I’m glad to hear from you again ;)
