Roupas favoritas -"Go-To" garments

Summerset wrote a post asking about favorite garments, our "go-to" garments; my immediate answer was the Orwell coat, of course! Right now it's my favorite garment and I feel wonderfully well when I'm wearing it, but this coat is well known to Summerset and most of my readers so I decided to open my wardrobe closet and pick something else to show you.

This is one of my favorite garments; it's a long purple leather coat I bought seven years ago and I still wear it because, as far as I am concerned, it will never be out:
This coat is well fitted to the figure and it has a front metal zipper that closes up to the end of the collar. Its collar is one of the details I like the most:
The lining is made of purple satin; as you can see it's a very luxurious coat and I save it to wear on special occasions.
Although my favorite color is Red, the most abundant color in my wardrobe is Black. I have a particular black dress that I tend to wear very often; I bought it at S. Paulo on one of my business trips to Brazil:
This dress is about six years old but I still wear it and I feel great when I'm wearing it too!

There is also another black suit that I would like to show you but I don't keep it at home because it no longer fits me. I made this suit more than ten years ago to attend to my father's second marriage and I still think it's the most beautiful garment I've ever made. I don't have it here but I have the Burda International featuring the original model, so I scanned the pictures from it; believe me, mine was exactly like this, even the buttons were alike:
I couldn't find the velvet embroidery for the sleeves, collar and side of the shirt on sale so I just made it myself. First I made a drawing of it; then I interfaced a piece of black velvet and I thread traced the drawing using thin black embroidery thread; then I did a satin stitch along the threaded lines using the same black thread and I trimmed the velvet close to the satin stitched lines to make it look exactly as the original model; the result was perfect!
Next Fall/Winter I plan to make this suit again, this time I will trace a size 38 instead of a 36 with a size 34 waist!

Lovely things! Thanks for mentioning me. Funny, but there's a lot of black in my wardrobe, too!

The suit is really something - I would have done the same thing to imitate that trim. Cutwork, but mostly done by machine!

That suit must be so beautiful--better than the Burda original even, because you made the trim than buying it. Like Summerset, I would have done the same as you: just made it.

genial ( teaching German here... )
I really like the garment for the burda international and it happens that I do wear a size 38 :) if you still have the traced pattern :) ;)

I'm really looking forward to see a pic of your version!
